Theresa Adubato became principal of Robert Treat Academy Charter School in August of 2010.  Since the New Jersey Charter School Program Act of 1995 assigned charter schools the same legal status as public school districts, Ms. Adubato also has all the authority and responsibility of a Superintendent of Schools.

Ms. Adubato's ten years as Vice Principal at the Academy will serve her well in her role as Principal of one of New Jersey’s thirteen original charter schools.

During her career in education, Ms. Adubato has been a teacher, supervisor, and vice principal.  Prior to joining the Academy, she worked at Newark Public Schools as an elementary school teacher.  At the Academy, Ms. Adubato developed, implemented and supervised the High School Placement Department. She also brought the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth Program to the Academy.   Prior to working in education, Ms. Adubato worked for New Jersey's first health maintenance organization, originally known as Crossroads Health Plan.  Her varied background gives her the specialized knowledge and experience needed to run one of these “new experiments” known as charter schools.

The mission of the Robert Treat Academy is to provide a safe and stimulating atmosphere where children achieve academic excellence and exhibit socially acceptable behavior.   The Academy operates in a cost-effective manner while engaging parents in the educational process.

Ms. Adubato's leadership is one of the main reasons for the Academy’s success.  Her dedication and experience have helped to make the Robert Treat Academy one of the finest schools in New Jersey.  The Academy’s charter has been renewed twice.

For the past six years Robert Treat Academy has been named a Benchmark School by Just For The Kids - New Jersey, which was established by the Business Coalition for Educational Excellence at the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with the New Jersey Department of Education.

In 2008, the Academy was one of 320 schools nationally to be awarded NCLB Blue Ribbon Status for academic excellence. In 2005, Robert Treat Academy was named one of only three New Jersey Title I Schools of Distinction and was the only elementary school to receive the Channel 12 School Bell Award.

Robert Treat Academy has graduated six eighth grade classes and nearly 300 students.  These students have received financial aid and scholarship offers in excess of $14 million to attend some of the country’s most prestigious boarding and day schools.

The Academy has been successful in every area.  Student achievement has been measurable and dramatic.  Parent participation goals have been reached and the school is economically sound.
